Whether on extraction and processing sites for metals and ores, in the oil sector or on hydroelectric sites, the challenges are varied in this area. 1. Agnico Eagle Mines
The most impressive mining mandate entrusted to Honco’s team of professionals is also the most recent: the construction of several buildings in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut for Agnico Eagle Mines. Since part of the construction took place in winter, employees deployed for this project experienced average temperatures of -34 °C (-29,2 °F).
2. Canadian Royalties
In 2011, Honco was awarded this mandate for the construction of a thermal power station and an ore crushing plant. To make way for the impressive crusher needed for the customer operations, Honco designed, built and erected an impressive 21 m (68.9 ft) building. An even greater challenge when carrying out the project in the northern region where access is limited.
3. Falconbridge Ltée/ Xstrata Nickel
A first mandate was given by Falconbridge Ltd. in 1995 to Honco. The mandate included the execution of an engineering, procurement, construction and full commissioning mandate for two buildings for its new nickel mine at Raglan, in Quebec’s far north. In 2008 and 2010, Xstrata Nickel, the new owner of the facilities, in turn commissioned Honco for expansions. Among the projects carried out by Honco on this site we find: a maintenance garage and administrative offices, a rotating biological disks building, various surface buildings and generators, and a core library.
4. Alcoa Fjardaal Smelter project
Completed at Fjardabyggo in Iceland, Honco was given the mandate to design, supply, deliver and supervise the installation of a building for the Alcoa plant. Given the location of this aluminum electrolysis plant, the project was carefully analyzed so that the construction on site was successful despite the remoteness of the site. Honco’s expertise in carrying out projects on mining sites combined with its international experience was of great help in this project. All panels and structural elements of the Honco building are fabricated, pre-drilled and pre-cut at the factory ready to be shipped in containers and assembled on site.
5. FNX Mining co.
Located at Levack Mine, Sudbury (ON), this project included the design and supply of a service building with an administrative section and a heavy equipment maintenance garage. One of the specific characteristics of this mandate was to work on a very limited site as regards the mobilization of construction site and assembly.
